I think an investment in Phuket has more chances to quickly appreciate in value.
Although Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand, my opinion is that this market is a little bit "has-been". Moreover Bangkok has the inconvenient of no being located on the sea shore, of being one of the world most polluted city, and above all, it is sinking because it was built on soft grounds so it is regularly flooded.
Phuket attracts not only tourists, but also people who want to retire or expats who want to escape from overpopulated metropolis like Hong Kong, Bangkok or Singapore in order to enjoy a better quality of life and reduce their costs of living.
Also in Phuket, you can buy a beach front apartment that you will use during your vacation and that will bring you back some income the rest of the time. This can't be done with a Bangkok apartment.
Moreover, some developers in Phuket offer credits to buyers who agree to bring their property in the rental pool of the project.
